I don't get all this stuff it confuses me. I want to play counterstrike I think but it's like an expansion of Half Life 2? Or?

What do I buy?

You buy Half Life 2, it come with Counter Strike installed onto the disk.. rather it's give you access for this program. Once you installed HL 2 into your computer, you need to go online and download the rest of the patches and updates for both HL2 and CS in order to play.

Thats the dumb part about the so called "Steam" system. Everything needed to be downloaded from Steam in order for you to play anything.

Half Life 2 includes Counter Strike Source, and HL2 deathmatch. Once you installed the game, it would asked for your CD-Key, enter it and it will begin downloading these updates and patches.
